The Ammonite Simple Series

Ammonite fossils from Morocco with semi-precious stones hanging on either sterling silver or bronze chain.

Ammonites are an extinct group of marine animals , they are excellent index fossils as is very often possible to link the rock layer in which they are found to specific geological time periods.

The closest living animal relative to the Ammonite is probably not the modern Nautilus (which they outwardly resemble) but rather animals like the squid or octopus.
