Piacava vegetal fiber is a product of the Palm tree Attalea Funifera know as "Piaçaveiro".
Endemic to Bahia state in Brazil, piaçava fiber is a very important revenue in the producing areas.
The name Piaçava originated from Tupi-Guarany language and means fibrous plant. The fiber has been used by the indians to build their huts and make brooms, nut is browed into flower and milk extracted on a press, the nut can also be burn like carbon to produce heat.
Piaçava is a long, impermeable and very resistant fiber so during the colonial period piaçava fiber was immediately adopted by the Europeans to make ropes for the boats and roof cover and the most famous broom in Brazil still is the Piaçava broom.
The use of piaçava fiber is older then Brazil's history as it has been traditionally used by the native population for centuries. Still today is a culture that is not been profitable as it could be. The cablocos say that the "Piaçaveiro is a treasury hidden right in front of our eyes and nobody can see"
